Stage One: Theoretical Training Before Machine Arrival

A good training plan starts weeks before the shipment arrives, by requiring the supplier to provide a translated operation and maintenance manual, instructional videos, and a detailed technical datasheet. The factory team reviews this material together to understand the machine's working principle and main components before ever standing in front of it, which shortens the on-site training time later.

Stage Two: Hands-On Training During Installation

This is the most critical stage, typically occurring when the supplier sends an engineer to oversee installation and trial runs. Attendance of local operators and technicians should be mandatory throughout this entire period — not just watching from a distance, but actually performing tasks under the engineer's supervision: start-up and shutdown, parameter adjustment, mold or tool changes, and reading error messages on the control screen.

Stage Three: Preventive Maintenance Training

This aspect is often overlooked despite having the greatest impact on the machine's lifespan. Maintenance technicians need separate training on the lubrication schedule, belt and chain inspection, sensor calibration, and replacement of wear parts — all documented in an internal maintenance log the team can reference later instead of relying on memory.

Stage Four: Troubleshooting and Emergency Response Training

Modern machines display error codes on their screens, but few factories train their team to read these codes and respond quickly. It's best to request a list of the 15-20 most common faults and their solutions directly from the supplier, translate it, and post it next to the control panel as a quick reference for night shifts, when immediate contact with technical support in China is difficult due to the time difference.

  • The primary operator plus at least one backup operator, so the line doesn't stop when one person is absent
  • A mechanical maintenance technician and a separate electrical/controls technician
  • A quality control officer who understands the line's critical inspection points
